    CIHR-funded researchers from the University of British Columbia looked at the impact of two widely used antibiotics – streptomycin and vancomycin – on the bacteria in the gut. In tests using mice, they found that use of vancomycin early in life creates dramatic changes in the bacterial communities in the intestine and increases severity of asthma. However, the same antibiotics do not impact susceptibility to asthma in adult mice.
