From the Facebook of Canada Remembers: #DidYouKnow 22 Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilots flew combat missions during the Korean War, destroying or damaging 20 enemy jets? The United Nations forces enjoyed complete supremacy in the air for most of the Korean War. UN bombers inflicted heavy damage on airfields, bridges, railways and tunnels. Fighter jets hammered the enemy's forward positions and forced supplies and troops to only move at night. Twenty-two RCAF fighter pilots and a number of technical officers served with the U.S. Fifth Air Force during the conflict. The Canadians were credited with 20 enemy jet fighters destroyed or damaged, as well as the destruction of several enemy trains and trucks. Pictured is Canadian pilot Omer Levesque in Korea. 413 Squadron conducts international SAREX: Mountain Ex 2016 #Training #ThatOthersMayLive #AIRPower 413 Transport and Rescue (T&R) Squadron is conducting an international-level Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) from 31 Jan to 12 Feb 2016, in Portland, Maine, USA. The aim of the exercise is to improve the unit’s capability to conduct SAR operations in mountainous terrain. The training includes CH-149 Cormorant mountain flying, ice climbing and rope rescue techniques. Northern areas require crews to exercise sound mountain flying and rescue techniques. Mountain flying can be some of the most challenging for helicopter pilots due to the unpredictability of the wind interacting with uneven terrain. The ability to properly assess the various elements such as wind, shape and complexity of the terrain is crucial in a mountain rescue.
