How has the Fortress of Louisbourg inspired you? Earlier in the fall, the Parks Canada Campus Club - CBU was invited to the "Louisbourg Takeover" weekend, one of the events that take place during the season at the Fortress of Louisbourg. One of the Campus Club members, McLeod Sumner, is studying music this semester at Cape Breton University (although his degree is in anthropology and sociology). McLeod has a keen interest in the Cape Breton fiddle tradition, and the overnight experience at the Fortress inspired him to write a march. The tune, simply named "Louisbourg", was published by Paul Cranford in this week's The Victoria Standard, and has made its way to the local traditional music sessions. Thanks for sharing your talents, McLeod! Tune: McLeod Sumner; transcription: Paul Cranford at Cranford Publications (cranfordpub.com)

As we prepare to celebrate the SuperFête de Saint-Louis tomorrow (Aug 22) with a Keith Mullins concert at 3pm, our fireworks crew is getting ready to add to the celebration with one of our unique fireworks displays. There is a large fog bank that has been rolling in and out of Louisbourg this week and most evenings the "fog of time" has been taking the modern world away from the Fortress. If this is the case, we will not be able to light up the sky but will reschedule the fireworks for a later date.

Travel back in time at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site! Feel the ground shake under the blast of the cannon you've just fired. Savour the catch of the day chased by a shot of Fortress Rum in the ambience of an 18th-century tavern. Marvel at the pageantry of celebration days. Dare to stay after dark during SuperFête. Camp overnight, the 18th-century way, at this weekend's Great Louisbourg Sleepover.
