Get to know the #ArmyReserve. The Royal Newfoundland Regiment is one of the oldest Regiments in Canada, raised in 1780. The Regiment has the distinction of bearing the Battle Honour "Gallipoli" on it’s Regimental Colour, which no other Regiment in North America carries. The Regiment fought alongside the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) and British forces at the battle of Gallipoli, which began on April 25, 1915. Want to know more? Shared via the Kingston Whig-Standard - " 'We see that period of time as the birth of our nation. It forged us as a nation. We left a lot of blood on the shores of Gallipoli, and it was there that we really cut our teeth as a nation.' - Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew Behan, Australian Army liaison officer to the Canadian Army. For the past decade or so, Australian soldiers based in Kingston on military exchange programs have quietly gathered at dawn each April 25 to mark a day that is as much a part of their national identity as Vimy Ridge is of Canada's."
